LA "Just for Fun" Contest

The first of the LA amature contests to be put on was held at Escondido beach in Malibu. The word on the location was not disclosed till the day before the contest. Started around 9am to show up and see Teddy Parker warming up skimming before we could even set up. The conditions were "eh" at this time, but got better throughout the day. We started skimming and saw the skimmers come in slowly. As everyone was coming the free-skim pretty much just turned into a mega heat. We then split up the heats into a "pro division" and "locs" division.

This was pretty much the semi-finals. They had bout 20 minutes and it was still funs and games during their heats. Other skimmers came and still skimmed around but wasn't all serious cuz this was just 4 fun. The "locs" went first. Christian was absolutely killing it during this heat, super consistent and was getting some nice rides. Morgan was also skimming good all day, he even went switch, but also had such a great fall that the beach was speechless when he face planted on his board! Will also getting in the line with some rides.

Then the Pro heat went down and Aaron Fujimoto showed up with his "pro'ness" and was "techin" all day. Teddy also throwing in some tech and taylor squeezing some rides in. After the semi-finals we all ate free hot dogs, about 32 of them! The skimmers were then told what the standings were from the semi's. Then out in the yonder the waves were getting nice and the sun was beaming. It was time to trunk it and some more free skim.

The finals then started when the conditions were good and the "locs" went first with a 25 minute heat. The finals we got a little serious and no one else was allowed to skim around the competitors so they can enjoy the conditions. The "locs" division went down and out of nowhere like a little freak russian curly man denis showed up with his riding. Morgan also turning it up a little towards the end of the heat to keep his solid second place. Christian just didn't get as many waves.

The pros went down with a 23 minute heat, got creative and had a celebrity appearance by king kevin and got into the mix. Kevin just absolutely killing it out there showing up from filming all day. Extra points were called for anyone getting close to the kayak out there and kevin charged that shit with a ride around them into 3rd place. Teddy and Fuj were trying to see how long they can keep their hair dry but that wasn't long till teddy got a sick ass ride down the line and after that he was murdering it and knocked fuj down into second. After the finals we gave out everyone free contest shirts for coming and handed out prizes like square pads, radios, kites, 99 cent condoms, basket, more shirts, magazines, vhs, and a cigg. We then just chilled, medicated, and relaxed. Will also got a $100 square gift card for 4th place.

Fair Oaks Burger

For an all around resturant with mexican, chinese, american, and italian food would be Fair Oaks Burger. This is a family owned resturant with relatively good prices for $10 and under. Their burgers are delicous and water mouthing. They actually make their own ranch dressing and are known for it. Service is on the dot with quality of food.

I had gotten myself a double cheese burger with grilled onions, avacado and bacon. Also a side of fried zuccinni, not the healties but sure is a tasty meal. Keep in mind Ii could not bite this whole burger, I had to take a bite from the top and bottom.

All of this food for just a little over $10 with a drink which is not bad at all. Fair Oaks burger can be found in Altadena off of Fair Oaks. A recommondation would be to try the Carne Asada Taco Salad.

Rey Rey's Birthday

Rene's birthday ended up somewhere around the Malibu/Ventura area, full relaxation and FUN. Cooked up some good asada on his new grill and skimmed some fun waves for a brief time till the dub (wind) came out and made it a little more scetchy.

Road Trip to Chase Swell

On Friday, July 24th a nice south swell came into Southern California. This swell brought in overhead size sets, and 25+ foot waves at the wedge.

Road trip started off Friday checking all the spots...

Saturday morning...Leo Carrillo was one of the first spots we checked...

and the spot I lost my camera at...North side of Point Mugu Rock was an amazing beach, with a steep slope, harsh trough, and waves that break onshore like Westward, Newport, and Bodega Bay in one.

Next spot on the list was Campus Point in Santa Barbara. The swell played perfect into Santa Barbara because of its difficult time to consistently get waves. There were sets coming in at about waist to shoulder high waves. With some nice front side liners peeling onto the beach.

Leo Session

Riding with the Ventura cats on July 12th. Winds picked up early at about 10-15mph, but that didnt stop us from riding. It was Jesse Beers' Birthday...so all the Ventura Skimmers came out. Even Dave from SlotStik came out to take some pictures.

A shot of Leo Carrillo on Wednesday, July 8th.
Always a blast to skim with the Ventura guys...they are always about having fun when skimming.
